Love, Simon. The Must-Watch Queer Rom-Com #11.07

“Boy meets girl. Boy gets girl. Boy loses girl, then wins her back again. The end.” Behold; the conventional formula of your average, mainstream, romantic comedy; a formula that has recently been revolutionised with the glitter bombs of gay goodness that is “Love, Simon” – 20thCentury Fox’s latest coming-of-age, rom-com film.

Featuring our very own Aussie actress, Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why, 2017), the film is a much needed first step for greater queer representation in mainstream film, which we just love seeing! Tender, quirky and relatable, it’s being described as “the gay, teen film that we all didn’t know we needed”.

Everyone deserves a great love story, but for 17-year-old Simon Spier, it’s a little more complicated. He hasn’t told his family or friends that he’s gay, and he doesn’t know the identity of the anonymous classmate that he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious terrifying and life-changing.” Doesn’t that just scream movie night material?! We think yes.

From coming out of the closet, all the way to experiencing your first love, Simon tackles all the milestones on the road of accepting who you are, a road many of you lovers out there are familiar with. The film explores the depths of love and friendship and if anything, will leave you feeling all mushy inside and restore your faith in humanity!

Hot tip: our recommended movie snacks for this one are pizza and ice-cream, accompanied by your softest collection of blankets. For you hopeless romantics out there… we recommend having a box of tissues handy!

Love, Simon is available on DVD, Blu-ray and Digital streaming now!
